Don't miss another birthday. Your friends and family need to know you care (have a Hallmark moment with or without the card). There are a couple of options to commemorate a special occaison - of course you need to remember the date of the occaision in order for it to be efffective (give or take a couple of days).
Keep an ear out for cules if you don't actually know the correct date. I hear people say all the time, my birthday is in 3 days or today is my birthday. Write down those birthdays on your current alendar. At the end of the year transfer those dates onto your 2008 calendar before hanging it up.
If you are really hyper-organized, the envelopes can be addressed in advance, labelled and sent out on the appropriate date. Leave off the stamp until you get closer to the date.
That's almost tooooo much - but hey, if you think "What would Martha do?" and that's what you come up with - hey more power to you.
Send a card or one of those cutsie internet cards.
Hint: cards (of the mailed variety) still get higher points on the thoughtfulness meter than those e-neter cards. On the other hand, Tevehe, cards don't use any paper or resources. Who's"thoughtful" now?
Have anorganized day.

Don't Make Your Presents Felt
My life's philosophy is not for every one and I realize that you can't please all of the people all of the time BUT .. since this is my blog I can tell it like I want it to be.
I'll try not to be a grumble-bunny but as a charter member of the STOP BUYING STUFF Club it makes me crazy to see all the ridiculous stuff that passes for Christmas presents. Maybe it's just the stuff they advertise on TV (does anyone really give an electric toothbrush as a present?).
If it were up to me I think everyone should register for gifts - just like the brides do. That would certainly eliminate all those ties and sweaters you give to the man in your life. I don't think a gift should be something a person can easily buy for themselves. Is he really hankering for those jingle bell pajamas? Oh but what about the children? I guess they really need more toys. Yikes have you taken a look in your basement lately? How about the toy chest, full enough? Those Legos grow like kudzo vines.
So, now what - wrapping paper and cartons all over the place. Where are you going to put all the new stuff you bought when you haven't gotten rid of the old stuff yet? Here's an organizing tip, (afterall I am an organizer so expect some tips). When you know there will be a gifting opportunity (i.e. birthday, anniversary, etc.) store, donate or toss some of your old stuff to make way for the new. Even your children will understand this concept - trust me.
Some thoughts on recycling:
If you have lots of packing materials visit www.earth911.com to find recycling centers in your area. Maybe it's too late for this season but how about next year, wrap your presents in colorful newsprint or magazines. There's lots of materials that can be used to wrap your presents, for instance: paper or plastic - use the grocery bags you got from the store. Tell the kids they can create wrapping paper for all the family gifts as an arts and crafts project. A little crayon, some paint and voila. You won't even have to post the "art" on the fridge (that's another pet peeve for another day, I told you I'm a curmudgeon).
A lovely way to wrap a present is by using another gift for that purpose. Such as wrapping a box using a scarf, shawl or tablecloth. If you use a lovely ribbon it will really look great.
